Every day, we receive multiple questions from a variety of clients. We decided to create a bit of a frequently asked questions post to answer your questions about motorcycle towing.
Who to call for towing if your motorcycle breaks down?
Being stranded on the side of the road with a broken down motorcycle is no fun. As with a car, it is a good idea to get your motorcycle out of the way of other vehicles. A motorcycle can break down for many reasons and being out of fuel is probably the most common. If you know that’s the case, it would be a good idea to call a friend to bring you fuel or a tow dolly to get you home.
Don’t know anyone nearby who can bring you fuel? Then you might want to call for roadside assistance. The AA and other roadside assistance companies cover motorcycles and can be called at any time of the day or night.
If you don’t have roadside assistance, you might have to call 9-1-1.
How much for motorcycle towing insurance on Progressive?
Do you have roadside assistance with Progressive? Then you’d know that they charge approximately $16 a year for roadside assistance. Some other companies such as State Farm and Geico and AAA also have membership clubs that make for affordable roadside assistance, which usually includes the cost of motorcycle towing on a tow dolly.
Are electric brakes a good idea when towing a trailer with a motorcycle?
If you are going to tow a trailer with a motorcycle on a regular basis, it will be worth your while to install a brake in the cab. Also, upgrade to a six-pin harness. Remember, the electric brakes are for more than just stopping. You need it to stop the inevitable swaying that is bound to happen on slippery roads. Seasoned trailer pullers will never pull a trailer with a motorcycle unless they have the required safety gear.

If you are planning on renting a tow dolly or U-Haul motorcycle trailer, you want to be sure that your trailer has the appropriate weight rating and ball size. The typical U-Haul trailer coupler fits a 1-7/8 and two inch ball. Speak to your representative for the exact details.
How much does towing a motorcycle usually cost?

You can also transport a motorcycle on a flatbed truck at around $95 plus a flat rate of around $3.50 per mile for short distances. A sliding scale usually applies to longer distances.
